The
Center Grant
The
national alcohol research center grant contributes in a number
of ways to the overall research program of PRC. In addition
to the research components directly funded by the national
center grant, the center grant has enabled the successful
development of other sources of funding for additional alcohol
prevention studies. Without the center grant, the growth in
funded research would not have been possible. Additionally,
the center grant is essential because it supports infrastructure
and basic prevention science, both of which are necessary
to maintain the best research practices.
PRC's
research program is designed to include research at a variety
of levels of aggregation and complexity. The Component Directors
are committed to the development of integrated archival and
individual level data acquisition approaches in all components
of the planned studies.

Projects Directory
The
Center's research program integrates theoretical and empirical
work from the academic disciplines of anthropology, economics,
epidemiology, public health, policy science, psychology, and
sociology. The goal of the basic scientific research is to
understand the individual, social, political, and environmental
circumstances related to adverse health outcomes. Basic scientific
research into the characteristics of individuals that predispose
them to health risks are integrated with studies of social
milieu and environmental structures in which these risks are
too often realized in injury and death.
