Joel W. Grube, Director of the Center for Adolescent and Child Health Research, received his Ph.D. in psychology from Washington State University in 1979. He was Coordinator of the Public Opinion Laboratory (1977-1978) and Assistant Director of the Social Research Center at Washington State University (1978-1981), Senior Research Officer at the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin, Ireland (1981-1983), and a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Alcohol Studies at the School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley (1985-1986). Since 1986 he has been a Senior Research Scientist at the Prevention Research Center, Berkeley, CA. He has been an Associate Director of the Prevention Research Center since 1998. His research focuses on social-psychological and environmental factors influencing drinking among adolescents and young adults. His current research projects include a longitudinal survey study of underage drinking and driving; a longitudinal study on the effects of alcohol advertising on the drinking beliefs and behaviors of children and adolescents; and a longitudinal study on the effects of exposure to sexuality in the media on adolescents' sexual risk taking.
