Organizations
The
following national organizations can be utilized as a valuable
resource to receive additional information on the prevention
of alcohol and drug abuse. The Prevention Research Center
has developed relationships with each of these organizations
to assist in the dissemination of prevention information based
on the scientific research conducted at the Center. To learn
more about the organizations listed below, please click on
the name of the desired organization and you will be directed
to the appropriate web site. Please remember, there are many
other organizations specializing in the prevention of alcohol
and drug abuse including local organizations specific to your
community that will be able to provide additional resources.

Concerned
Citizens Groups
The
findings of alcohol prevention research are important to the
general public as well as citizen advocacy organizations.
These organizations extract from the Center's research valuable
data relating to their organizational goals in the prevention
of alcohol and drug abuse.
Mothers
Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
This
organization is made up of victims of impaired driving and
their advocates and works towards the implementation of policies
and practices to prevent impaired driving.
Community
Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA)
CADCA is a national organization representing grass-roots
community organizations with substance abuse as their primary
concern. It serves a leadership and networking function for
members and sponsors the development and dissemination of
guidance documents as well as conferences and training.
Practitioners
and Policy Makers
Prevention
practitioners and policy makers utilize the research of the
Center to help shape public policy relating to the prevention
of alcohol and drug abuse.
The
National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors
(NASADAD)
The
members of this organization direct the expenditure of Block
Grant funds from the U. S. Department of Health and Human
Services
The
National Prevention Network (NPN)
Working
under the supervision of the State Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Directors above, members of this organization direct the expenditure
of Block Grant funds allocated for prevention activities in
each state.
The
National Association of Governor's Highway Safety Representatives
(NAGHSR)
Members
of this organization direct the expenditure of funds coming
from the U.S. Department of Transportation and are instrumental
in implementing policies and programs at the state level to
prevent alcohol-impaired driving.
National
Alcohol Beverage Control Association (NABCA)
NABCA
is the membership organization of states that maintains some
form of monopoly control over alcohol sales. NABCA provides
member states and other interested parties with information
concerning alcohol policy, and sponsors meetings and conferences
of alcohol control agencies.
The
Congressional Prevention Coalition
This
is a working group made up of members of the U.S. Senate and
House of Representatives with a specific interest in prevention
and its role in increasing American health and safety.
Dissemination
Organizations
The
Federal government, as well as private organizations and citizen
groups, have recognized the need to provide information regarding
the best practices in the prevention field. These agencies
work with research organizations, including the Prevention
Research Center, to provide prevention information, guidance,
and leadership to researchers, government agencies, community
leaders, and concerned citizens.
The
Centers for the Application of Prevention Technology (CAPTUS)
These
regional centers are funded by the Centers for Substance Abuse
Prevention with the goal of encouraging the adoption of science-based
prevention practice. They provide information and interpretation
to assist grant recipients in adhering to federal guidelines
for the expenditure of funds. The centers are looked to by
state prevention agencies for information on best practices
and would be a natural venue for the dissemination of information
from PRC. PIRE has had a long-term working relationship with
the centers.
The
Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center (UDETC)
This
center is a project of PIRE located in our Maryland office
and funded primarily by the Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention. It provides informational materials,
training, technical assistance, and ongoing consultation to
state and community organizations involved with preventing
underage drinking. A significant portion of its activities
address alcohol policy issues in general. The center has already
disseminated key findings and implementation information generated
by PRC.
The
National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI)
The
Clearinghouse serves as a central information node for a wide
range of information related to alcohol as well as other drugs.
It serves the general public as well as the research and practice
communities. It maintains extensive files of information and
primarily disseminates information based on requests from
interested parties. It also carries out some proactive marketing
of materials for identified special projects.
The
National Liquor Law Enforcement Agency (NLLEA)
This
organization provides training and technical assistance to
state alcohol beverage control enforcement agencies in areas
related to alcohol control policies. PIRE provides the knowledge
synthesis and curriculum development function for the organization. |
